1.The brief
After reading the brief, i learned that this project requires us to record ourselves and our lives around us, to get data from it and to visualise it.The theme I chose was personal space
· Personal Spaces:These coulds be anything from whats inyour bag to your bathroom.
As required by the brief, I decided to record the time I spent using electronic devices during the week.
Looking back on my life after school, I probably spent the most of the time on my phone and various electronic devices. I believe that many young people are just like me. Sometimes a day passes and we find that we have nothing to do and just play with electronic devices all day long. So I would like to take this opportunity to record my electronic device usage time and find out how long I spend on electronic devices every day? What am I doing with electronic devices? Was it worth the time?
I use the phone’s own screen time logging function to record .
2.Data record
The electronic devices I use most frequently are my iPhone and my Macbook. I use the phone’s screen time logging function to record the data.I have recorded data from 15 June to 21 June.
Because the data was so much and so cumbersome, I decided to simplify it. First I categorised the apps used by the device according to the type of app. I divided them into I divided them into ten types:
Social,Study,Shopping&Food,Browsing,News,Music,Series&Movies,Tool,Reading,Hobby

3.Design idea
· First I wanted to make a poster to show the total time spent on my two electronic devices per day over a seven-day period. With the alarming datas in this poster I wanted to remind the audience that we really do spend a lot of time every day in the virtual world constructed by our electronic devices. And this is bad for our eyesight and our health.
· Secondly, I hope to list the usage of my electronic devices one by one according to the date and present them in a brochure explaining to the audience: since I spend so much time on my electronic devices every day,how do i use them?
4.Sketchbook
First I worked on the idea of the content of the poster. I think that people seems to can’t live without their electronic devices nowadays. Some people are addicted to the world in mobile phones for work reasons, while others are addicted to poor self-control. It’s as if our time is trapped by our phones. So I decided to create a poster with the theme of “Trapped”.
I represent the “time spent” in different sizes of circles according to the length of time.
Next I worked on the idea of the content of the brochure. I thought about how our time slips away in the use of electronic devices, as if they are running out of power. So I decided to use the mobile phone charging cable as a metaphor for our time.
And for the data visualisation, I decided to turn the time spent using the device and the type of app I was using into dots and connect them to form a web-like graph, just like the huge internet we use.
I used the second sketch as the final representation of my data visualisation
