- Brief
The project is about the process of application design, suppose we want to design a weather application. Through PACT (People, Activity, Context, Technology) analysis some questions are derived and some needs of target users are found. And create low and high fidelity wireframes and prototypes.
User groups
• Key Stage 2 (KS2) school children (7-11) – tablet users
• Skiers and mountain sports enthusiasts – smartphone users
• Cyclists and motorbike riders – smartphone users
First, I choose the target user group with cyclists and motorcycle riders.
First I determined through secondary research that people under the age of 40 make up the largest percentage of cyclists. So I set the target group’s age group at under 40. Then I conducted a PACT analysis of this user group’s behavior in using weather apps
- Sketchbook
I made persona. I divided the persona into two parts. First, Li is a courier. His daily job is to deliver deliveries to customers on his motorbike. He needs to spend a lot of time outdoors. The weather has a big impact on his work efficiency. So he wants to receive regular alerts on weather changes forcast, even when there is no internet.
Next, Mason is a new employee whose main mode of transportation to and from work is by shared bicycle. But he often forgets to check the weather, so he wants the app to proactively remind him of the weather conditions at the beginning and end of the work day, and give him advice on what to wear.
After that I did a competitive analysis
- Sketchbook
This is my sketchbook when I first started designing
This is the sketchbook that records my work process
Compared to the visible, I adjusted the alert page according to the feedback. And added examples of interaction forms for each page and each button. And plotted into an accurate wireframe diagram.
My weather app finally divided into three parts, “home”“cycling” and ” “my” page .
home page, contains the local weather and other lacation weather.
The cycling page contains the real-time weather of your location, navigation, and according to the estimated arrival time forecast destination weather conditions.
“My” page includes adding the weather for the place you want to go, and adding weather alerts. When you set a time frame, it will periodically alert you with voice assistant or other forms of the weather changes (such as it will rain in 30 minutes).
After that I made cardboard to finish the prototype test.
Thanks for watching!
