PROJECT 2:Everyday People

This project is about researching and understanding users.I need to research the people involved in a particular aspect of everyday life and collect data, then making the user model individually.

  • I used the form of mind map to think about the brief.

Through the exploration of mind map, I determined that my research direction is the issue of people exercising.

  • BACKGROUND

In 2020, due to COVID-19 many people were stuck at home for long periods of time, unable to work or go to school. This leads to a lot of things that have to be done at home. And since humans need to exercise every day to stay healthy, I chose home exercise as my topic.

  • Research

I sent out questionnaires to everyone, and after counting the basic age data of the people who received the questionnaires, I found that young people are the main group of home exercise, so I conducted an in-depth research on young people who do home exercise

Then I conducted an in-depth survey on the following questions:
-How to exercise at home
-Have you ever exercised at home before?
-What is the purpose of home exercise?
-What prevents you from exercising at home?
-What do you think are the solutions to the problem?

The results show that only one third of young people really know how to exercise at home. Most people exercise at home to get in shape and get fit. A few do it to treat injuries and a very small number do it for hobbies.

Most people give up home exercise because they don’t know the right way to exercise at home and don’t think it works. Some people give up exercising because they forget or are lazy, and some people give up exercising because they are lack of exercise equipment at home.

Then I wanted to know if there were external factors affecting the motivation of home-based exercisers, so I used the observation method to observe home-based exercisers.

Next, I conducted interviews to better understand the psychology and needs of users.

They do not know how to exercise, and they think that exercising at home lacks an exercise atmosphere. In addition, they feel that they are not very self-motivated and need supervision.

  • Sketchbook

I drew in my sketchbook for the final work

  • Final work

I summarize the contents of the questionnaires, interviews, and observations and reflect on them in depth. I summarized the thoughts and behaviors of the home-based exercisers into an empathy map

After fully understanding the user’s psychology, I created the personas. Based on previous research, I described the target audience as a 22 year old college student and a 25 year old corporate employee. Which shows their needs as well as pain points

Next, I created a user journey map to fully describe the process of home exercise for people exercising at home and the emotional changes that occur during the process.

Thanks for watching!
